Greenspace
From GPG
The term 'green spaces' is used in many strategic documents in local government to include the wider countryside.
It is an opportunity for the public rights of way service to feed into the green spaces agenda, such as work carried out by CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment), which is the government's advisor on architecture, urban design and public space .
It may not necessarily produce direct funding, but does provide the means to raise the profile and importance of public rights of way amongst the parks and green spaces staff in urban areas by promoting the public rights of way network to connect areas of isolated green space.
The green spaces agenda supports the health and well-being initiatives, and again, the public rights of way network can be instrumental in implementing these strategies.
There are a number of organisations working to create or protect greenspace including :
- GreenSpace is a registered charity set up to promote the regeneration of parks and public spaces in towns and cities
- GreenSpace Scotland covers Scotland
- Natural England
